Christmas initiative to reach more families in need

Hope Empowered’s Christmas in a Box (CIAB) initiative will assist even more families in need this Christmas.

The success of the initiative in previous years has seen CIAB expand from North Brisbane to include Toowoomba in 2010.

The annual activity engages local schools, businesses and volunteers to provide gourmet hampers for families who are facing significant hardship.

Hope Empowered CEO, Alex Attard stated that, “Christmas in a Box is all about connecting community at Christmas. Connecting businesses, families, schools and the volunteers from Hope City Church (Brisbane) and Impact Christian Centre (Toowoomba) with families who are doing it tough at Christmas.”

Program Coordinator Marion Macaulay explained some of the circumstances facing these families.

“Some have lost children over the past 12 months or have children in treatment for cancer. All are facing challenging circumstances, including the loss of a job, house fire, unexpected illness or ongoing financial strain,” Marion said.

This year 110 families will receive hampers to make their Christmas a little brighter.
